Kash Farooq is set to defend his British bantamweight crown live on BBC Scotland after it was confirmed the Knightswood fighter’s next bout has been picked up by the new channel.
Dubbed the ‘Battle of Britain’, Farooq will put his British title on the line against unbeaten English champion Kyle Williams on Thursday, April 5 at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Glasgow City Centre.
Williams, 27, boasts an unbeaten record of 10 wins from 10 professional bouts, with two coming by way of knockout.
The Wolverhampton brawler is the current English bantamweight champion and is set to be Farooq’s toughest test to date.
Farooq won the belt in September last year with a destructive 70-second knockout win over Jamie Wilson before going on to successfully defend his title on November 30 with a one-sided win against the experienced Iain Butcher in another all-Scottish affair.
That unanimous decision win over Butcher took his record to an impressive 11-0 with ‘Untouchable’ Farooq now looking to extend that record against Williams.
Speaking to Post Sport, Farooq said: “I’m really excited to get back out there. This will be my second defence now so I’m looking forward to it. It’s an English fighter this time so there will be a wee bit of an extra needle to it.
“Kyle could be one of the toughest opponents so far. I always look at the next fight ahead of me as being my toughest. You’re not going to get easy fights at this level either.”
After impressive victories against Butcher and Wilson, it was expected that Farooq’s next outing would see him get in the ring with Commonwealth champion Lee McGregor.
And while Kash has got his eye on making sure that much-hyped bout takes place somewhere down the line, he is in no way taking Williams lightly.
He continued: “I train for every fight like it’s going to be the hardest yet and I’ve found that’s a good way to do things. I’ve seen a wee bit of Kyle before. I expect a tough night.”
