Peter McKenna hailed his Yoker side’s performance after they got their West Region League Two campaign up and running with a dominant 2-1 win away to Lugar Boswell Thistle on Saturday.
Despite the Whe Ho suffering the worst possible start to life in League Two after conceding inside the opening three minutes, McKenna’s men went on to dominate both halves.
Although frustrated to be going in 1-0 down at the break, Yoker continued their dominant display into the second-half and grabbed two well-deserved goals to match their effort.
The Holm Park side’s determination and steady passing play was rewarded just four minutes after the restart with David Crerard reacting quickest to make the most of a scramble in the box and tuck it away.
After that, it was a case of when, not if, the visitors would get their noses in front and it was Crerard who popped up with the timely finish minutes later, grabbing his and his side’s second from close-range.
Yoker continued to pile the pressure on the Ayrshire side and could have added more as the game went on, but McKenna was more than happy with the impressive performance and three points on the opening day.
“We’re over the moon with the performance and the three points,” McKenna said.
“It was just 2-1 but the boys played some really great stuff throughout.
“We went 1-0 down early on but we never panicked as we knew it was going to come. We told them to keep doing what they were doing and the goals would come. We got the second quite quickly after the first and it could have been more after that.
“Some of our play was fantastic, though. The attitude and the dig was great as well to come back from the early setback.
“It was completely one-sided from the off despite their early goal. We could have got another couple of goals but I’d be delighted if we could win every away game 2-1 to be honest.”

The games are coming thick and fast for Yoker who are back in league action tonight as they welcome their Sectional League Cup opponents Vale of Clyde back to Holm Park.
And while McKenna is confident his side will carry on their form, he has warned them not to get too complacent after their 3-1 league cup win over Vale last month.
He added: “I know we beat Vale of Clyde in the league cup a couple of weeks ago and it was a great game for us, but we know they’ll be coming tonight with the bit between their teeth. It’s up to ourselves to make sure we turn up ready to go and, hopefully, make it two from two.
“We’ve played a lot of football in the last few weeks so we’ll be changing it up a bit by bringing in some fresh legs for the Vale match. With the amount of boys we’ve brought in and with the quality we have, we’re certainly looking forward to it.”
“You can see they’re all really enjoying their football at the moment which is great to see. They’re enjoying the way we’re playing too. We need to keep picking up results to keep the good mood and momentum going.”
Yoker v Vale of Clyde at Holm Park kicks-off at 7pm.
