Yoker Athletic boss Gordon Robertson admits he was keen to get his recruitment right this summer after leaving himself short last season.
The Whe Ho boss has added to his squad throughout pre-season after feeling at the beginning of the 2022/23 campaign that he never had enough options at his disposal.
He has brought in Jamie O’Donnell, Corey Pearson, Richard Henry and Lewis Smith to his squad to join up with the squad that battled to sixth place in the Third Division of the West of Scotland Football League last season.
The club also signed Coby O'Brien from Clydebank earlier on Wednesday, a player who spent last season on loan.
After giving them pre-season under their belts, it’s now up to the Yoker gaffer to decide who makes his eleven but he hinted that they may have to work even harder to get into his starting line-up.
He explained: “We were a wee bit conscious at the start of the last season we were a bit slight in terms of our options and we want to make sure that’s not the case again this season.
“It’s going to be a tougher league than last season so there’s less margin for error and we don’t want to be treading water and we want to be a challenging team.
“It’s really important we have the mentality to go into every game wanting to win it, strive for promotion, and do well in the cups.
“Jamie O’Donnell we’ve brought in from one of the local amateur teams, St Joe’s, and was one of their Players’ of the Year last season. We’ve had our eye on him for quite a while, he is a Scottish amateur internationalist as well so we’re pleased to bring him in.
“Corey Pearson has come in from Bonnyton and is a midfielder who has also played with Auchinleck Talbot so he has a decent pedigree.
“Richard Henry has been at Renfrew and at Vale of Leven and will add some experience to the heart of the team.
“Lewis Smith is a local boy from Antonine Amateurs and scored a ridiculous amount of goals at that level last year.
“We’ve brought in four players who we are really excited about and they have had plenty of minutes in pre-season and from that, I need to decide what my best line-up for the opening league match is.
“They are coming into a good squad who finished the season well on a high last year so we’ll see how it goes.”
On Monday night Yoker played out a 1-0 defeat against a Hamilton Academical XI as the countdown to the big kick-off continues.
