YOKER Athletic manager Gordon Robertson has been encouraged by his side's start to pre-season as he looks to add more firepower ahead of the 2024/25 campaign.

The Whe Ho were the division's second lowest scorers last season but have found the net nine times across their three friendlies so far.

The Holm Park side were 5-1 winners over Glenvale and whilst they were defeated 4-3 by Kilbirnie Ladeside and 2-1 by Giffnock, Robbo was pleased to see his troops find the net.

He admits he will give his trialists every opportunity to impress in their final three friendlies against Thorniewood, Gartcairn and Vale of Leven, having already made the move to snap up two Trialists who have done enough to earn a deal.

Speaking to the Post, he said: “There wasn’t enough goals in the team last season so we have tried to address that with some of the players we have brought in to have a look at and we’re really pleased with the progress we have made.

“We’ve had three friendlies so far which we have been encouraged by – we scored five against Glenvale which was really pleasing, we scored three against a good Kilbirnie side whilst using a lot of trialists, and whilst the first half on Saturday against Giffnock wasn’t good we improved in the second half and there’s more information for us to gather on the trialists we have in.

“In terms of how the final squad will look, it’s still a bit up in the air at the moment and there’s one or two things which we are weighing the options up over.

“There wasn’t too much wrong with last season, we just didn’t have enough goals in the team but so far we’ve brought in David Collins and Roland Smyth and I’m really pleased about that, they’ve shown up really well. We’re encouraged by our under-20’s as well which has been good to see.

“Shaun Gallacher, Adam Gibbons, Jamie O’Donnell, Nathan Carmichael and Richard Henry have all moved on so we’re grateful to them for all of their efforts in a Yoker shirt.”
