CLYDEBANK manager Gordon Moffat admits he has been encouraged by his sides pre-season campaign as he looks to get his players ready for the start of the 2024/25 campaign.
Bankies have won all four of their friendlies so far with victories against the clubs development side, Bo’ness United, Caledonian Locomotives and Lochar Thistle.
The Holm Park side will be looking to build on back-to-back fourth-placed finishes in the Premier Division in the season ahead after finding themselves in the top-two of the league for much of the season.
Moff believes his troops are heading in the right direction ahead of further warm-up matches against Petershill and Inverurie Loco Works this week and hopes to welcome some new faces into his squad, as well as welcoming one of last seasons stand out’s back on to the pitch, in the coming days.
Speaking to the Post, he said: “There are some guys who are probably ready to go just now and others who could do with the two weeks before the start of the season.
“We were excellent in the Bo’ness game and could have won by a larger margin against a top-three Lowland League side – at the end of the day it’s still friendlies so we won’t get too excited with that but it was promising.
“The Caledonian Loco’s game was a wee bit frustrating because we had nine guys out for one reason or another so we used a lot of the 20’s which was a decent exercise.
“We could have scored a few more goals at the weekend but getting the win isn’t the most important thing, a lot of the guys have looked sharp and we played well.
“Nicky Low hasn’t done anything yet and had to get a wee procedure on his toe dealt with but he’ll be back in over the weekend and we’ll get him on an individual program to get him ready for the new season.

“We’re also looking to bring in a centre-back that we have been working on for two or three weeks. It’s the time of season where you need one thing to move to allow another and that’s where we are.
“The other one we’ll add will be in the forward area and we’re looking at the moment at someone who can play through the middle or out wide and we’re also looking for some pace in that area so hopefully we will get at least one done this week.”
The league fixtures for the coming season were released by West of Scotland Football League officials last week with the Bankies dealt a tricky opening set of fixtures with back-to-back trips to Gartcairn and then Shotts Bon Accord before Pollok are the first visitors to Holm Park of the 2024/25 campaign.
It’s one of just two home fixtures in the first seven matchdays, though Moff admits he sees that as a positive for later on in the season.
He explained: “Our start to the season tells you how tough the whole campaign is going to be. We had two tough games with Gartcairn last season so it’s difficult to start with and after coming up last season Shotts will feel positive.
“I’m generally fairly relaxed about the fixtures but the one disappointment would be that we’ve only got two home games in our first seven but then that means we’ve got a bank of home games further down the line so I don’t get too worked up about it.
“There’s 30 games and 30 game plans and 30 bits of preparation we need to do so we’ll focus on that first week initially and then go from there.
