CLYDEBANK manager Gordon Moffat believes that his players are feeling the benefits of their gruelling pre-season schedule after making it three wins from three with a 2-1 victory over Pollok on Saturday.

Bankies won 3-1 at Gartcairn on the opening day last weekend before following that up with a 2-1 midweek success on the road at Shotts Bon Accord and then a win by the same score line on Saturday thanks to second-half Nicky Little and Nicky Low strikes.

Luke Main set up a tense finale at Holm Park but Moff’s side held on to maintain their 100 per cent start to the season.

It’s a big improvement on last season's opening to the campaign where Clydebank had four points from their first three fixtures, and the Bankies boss believes his players deserve the credit for putting in the hard yards over pre-season.

Speaking to the Post, he said: “It was a pretty decent performance overall, we controlled pretty much all of the first half and the only disappointment would be that we didn’t test the goalkeeper enough with our dominance of territory.

“The second half was more even, we started it well and then Pollok had a good spell after we scored but when we made it 2-0 it was pretty comfortable.

“There was some sloppiness that let them back in but I think we were worth our win overall.

“If you look back at last season we started sloppy and after three games we had four points and we weren’t quite firing as sharp.

“We had to make sure we, as the coaches, done our bit over the summer to make sure the boys were ready and I feel that we are much sharper and fitter than we were last season.

“We try to do our bit as staff but when you hit the competitive stuff the players have got to do their bit and they deserve the credit for carrying it out in the games that matter.”

Bankies face another tough test this weekend when they take on St Cadoc’s at New Tinto Park.

The Cads will be looking to build on last seasons third place finish in the Premier Division, their first season in the top flight, and have done so in eyebrow raising fashion by securing the signature of Ciaran Diver who netted 43 times for league champions Beith last season.

He’s already hit three this season, including two on Saturday when St Cadoc’s picked up their first three points of the season at Gartcairn after disappointing defeats against Glenafton and Troon.

Moff believes Saturday’s hosts will be contesting for top spot throughout the campaign but hopes his troops can go into the game feeling good themselves.

He added: “If you look at their side they are obviously a really good squad.

"We had them watched on Saturday and were told they were very impressive.

“They are up and running now and will be up at the top end come the end of the season so even though it’s early days it’s a really important game.

“They are set up really well so it will be a tough game but we’re going over in good shape.”

Kick-off at New Tinto Park on Saturday is at 2:00pm.
