Clydebank manager Gordon Moffat praised his sides professional performance as they moved into the first round of the Scottish Cup after a 7-0 win over St Andrews United on Saturday.

The Bankies set up a clash with Girvan in round one later this month thanks to a hat-trick from Keir Samson, a brace from Ben McLernan alongside Nicky Little and Ciaran Mulcahy strikes.

Moff admits his troops were slightly below their best in the first-half but was pleased to see them quickly put the game out of the reach of their East of Scotland Football League opponents reach in the early stages of the second period.

Speaking to the Post, he said: “In the first-half we were a wee bit sloppy at times and we could have increased the tempo but we spoke about it at half-time and they took it on board and we were much solid all over in the second-half.

“The goal right on half-time to make it 2-0 probably knocks the stuffing out of them and I thought that would be a factor going into the second-half. Our boys fitness is at a really high level so I knew there would be more chances to come.

“It was really important to get the first goal in the second-half and take the game away from them and we managed to do that pretty quickly. We scored five goals in the second-half and that was justified and it could have been a few more so it was a good day overall.

“In the end it was a really professional job from the boys and to see four strikers on the scoresheet is always good as well.”

Bankies are set to host West of Scotland Football League Third Division side Girvan in the first round proper on September 28 and whilst three tiers will separate the sides, Moff revealed the mind games have started already.

He added: “The first thing you’re looking for is a home draw and you take who you get.

“I know [Girvan manager] Dean Keenan well and he has already been messaging me and I know how much preparation he puts in so we’ll need to be ready.

“When that comes we’ll do the usual preparation. The main thing for me is a home tie which lets us play our own game and take the game to them.”

It’s back to league business for Clydebank this weekend who will be looking to maintain their 100% record to start the season.

It’s seven wins from seven in the West of Scotland Football League Premier Division ahead of this weeks visit to Hurlford, and Moff wants his side to put in a carbon copy of their last away outing in their 3-1 win at Johnstone Burgh a fortnight ago.

He explained: “Hurlford games are always really tough, we went over there last year and we ground out a 1-0.

“It’s going to be a very tough game and we’ll look to take our Johnstone Burgh performance into that as a template of how an away game should be played and try to get another win.”

Kick-off at Blair Park on Saturday is at 2:00pm.
