CLYDEBANK boss Gordon Moffat insists there is more to come from his side as they made it ten wins from ten this season with a dominant victory over Caledonian Locomotives in the South Challenge Cup on Saturday.

Despite a below-par first half where Bankies took just a one-goal lead into the second period, the hosts hit top gear after the break and eventually ran out 7-1 winners to book their name in the draw for round three.

Alan Kelly got the only goal of the opening-45 before strikes from Ciaran Mulcahy, Keir Samson, Ben McLernan, Nicky Little and two from Craig Truesdale made it a comfortable afternoon before Connor McAtteer’s strike for the visitors.

Moff admits some stern words were needed at the interval but welcomed the scintillating second-half performance.

Speaking to the Post, he said: “The main thing with the cup ties is to be in the hat for the next round and we’ve done that but we were disappointed with the first half in a lot of ways.

“We spoke about it at half time and it was nothing overly shouty or having a go at them but I was disappointed with us off the ball, our press wasn’t quite right which was allowing them some time on the ball, and that then bled into ourselves when we had the ball and there wasn’t enough tempo to it.

“The second half was much better so if I’m going to give them a wee bit of criticism in the first half then they are due a lot of praise for the second half because the football was tremendous and we scored some fantastic goals.

“There have not been many times I have had to come after them at half time but I thought it was warranted and the players agreed with that, the standard we have been hitting wasn’t quite there in the first half.

“It’s a good sign that we have won 10 games out of 10 and we still think we can do better.

"I still think there is improvement to come from us and we are sitting with a perfect record so it’s a nice place to be in.”

The Bankies have a break from action this weekend ahead of another cup clash next on the agenda when they welcome Girvan to Holm Park in the Scottish Cup.

Moff admits he would rather the games kept coming with his troops flying at the moment but hopes the rest will allow some of his first-team players back to full fitness.

He added: “You can look at it both ways in that it’s nice to have a break and regroup with a couple of niggles we have and let them come back for the Scottish Cup but we also want to keep our momentum going.

“We’ll work hard this week and we’ve given the players Saturday off and some of us are going to get together for a team day out and then we’ll be back in next week with full focus on the Scottish Cup.

“We had Girvan watched on Saturday and they won 1-0 against Bathgate and we’ve got some good clips that we’ll go over as we always do for any game against any opponent.”
