Clydebank manager Gordon Moffat hailed his sides 4-0 win over Broxburn Athletic on Saturday as one of the top performances in his time with the club.

Many may have had this down as the Bankies’ toughest test yet as they travelled to a side who currently find themselves occupying sixth place in the Lowland League, one tier above Clydebank, but early goals from Matt Niven and Liam McGonigle put the visitors firmly in control.

A first-half red card to Broxburn’s Gary Brass further handed the initiative to the Holm Park side and they made the most of the extra man thanks to second-half goals from Ciaran Mulcahy and Nicky Little.

The result continues Clydebank’s unbeaten record this season and Moff insists his troops are keeping themselves level-headed despite another impressive win.

Speaking to the Post, he said: “It was a really good performance in a lot of ways, our use of the ball was really good from early doors and we got a grip of the game with our possession and a couple of goals in the first 10-minutes helping that.

“The red card on half-time took the sting out of the game for both teams where there was a wee bit of a lull before we got the third goal and then we went up a gear again and finished really strongly.

“We were in control of the game and some of our patterns of play were excellent. It was really satisfying from that point of view because they are a really good side so it was a statement win for us.

“We were playing against a top-six side from tier five which was a tough ask on paper but the boys deserved their victory.

“Although we do our homework on every team they are a wee bit of an unknown quality so it’s a big win, and the manner of it made it one of the top performances in my time here.

“The guys are good at keeping themselves grounded.

“Even when we came in after the game on Saturday the more vocal guys in the group were saying not to get over excited because we’ve got a busy week and a hard game at the end of it, they are quite good at reining themselves in.”

It’s a return to league action for Clydebank this weekend with Auchinleck Talbot the visitors to Holm Park.

Bankies dropped points for the first time this season in a 0-0 draw with Largs Thistle last weekend and Moff is keen for his side to return to winning ways.

He added: “The games with Auchinleck are always tough so we are looking forward to it.

“We had a good win in our last league game at home so if we can do that again it will be welcome.

“The games with Auchinleck are always close and competitive but we’re at home and on a fantastic run so we’ll be looking to take the game to them.

“It was a good point last week but then there was one or two who said we had dropped points for the first time so the boys have that demand on themselves.”

Kick-off on Saturday is at 2:00pm.
